Honoring the Growth I Didn’t Rush

ree

Every so often, I pause long enough to look around and realize just how far Little Fish Accounting has come. This week was one of those moments when we officially welcomed our eighth team member. Eight. I had to sit with that for a minute.

When I first started this firm, it was just me and a determination to serve small businesses in a way that actually felt human. No big plans to “scale.” No vision board full of org charts. Honestly, success looked like being able to pay myself consistently and not drown in expenses.

But over time, the work grew. Our clients trusted us with bigger pieces of their businesses. And along the way, I realized Little Fish wasn’t just a one-person mission, it needed a team to help me execute on my vision.

Hiring the first person felt wild. Hiring the second felt official. Hiring the eighth? Now it feels like we’re stepping into the version of Little Fish I couldn’t have imagined but somehow we were always meant to become.

What’s changed?

  • We understand our clients more deeply. Their patterns, their challenges, their ambitions — and how to support them without adding noise to their already packed lives.

  • Our operations are tighter. Not perfect, but way more intentional. Systems and structure used to feel scary; now they feel like freedom.

  • The team is shaping the culture. It’s no longer my way of doing things — it’s our way. And it’s better.

  • We’ve become more selective about who we serve. Saying “yes” to the right client and "sorry you're not a good fit" to the rest. That alone has been transformative.

What hasn’t changed is the heart behind all of it: helping small businesses build something sustainable, not overwhelming. Something that supports their lives instead of consuming them.

I don’t know exactly what Little Fish will look like years from now — and honestly, I try not to plan too tightly. But I do know this: we’ve grown in a way that feels aligned.

Steady. Rooted.

And hiring our eighth team member feels like both a milestone and a reminder: growth doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful.

Thanks for being part of this journey — whether you joined us yesterday or way back when I was doing everything, everywhere, all at once.

Here’s to what’s next 🥂
